Playa Vesique, Beach in Samanco District, Peru
Playa Vesique is a sandy beach on the Ancash coast, in the Samanco District of northern Peru, facing the Pacific Ocean. The shoreline is open and largely free of structures, bordered by coastal rocks on one side and a low, flat landscape inland.
The coastline around this beach has been used for fishing for many generations, long before any formal settlement developed in the area. The activity that grew here over time helped shape the identity of the surrounding Samanco District.
Fishing boats pulled up on the sand are a common sight here, reflecting how central the sea is to daily life in this area. Visitors can watch fishermen sorting their catch in the early morning, which gives the place a working, lived-in feel.
The beach is best reached by car or minibus from Chimbote, and there are few services nearby, so it helps to come prepared with water and sun protection. The sun and coastal wind can both be strong here at any time of year, so covering up is a good idea.
Within the coastal rocks near the beach, erosion has carved out a formation locally called the Cave of Love, which most visitors only discover by walking along the rocks. It is not visible from the main part of the beach, making it easy to miss on a short visit.
