Atlantis, The Palm is a 23-storey, 1,544-room resort at the apex of Palm Jumeirah, built as two accommodation wings, the East and West Towers, joined by a vast pointed arch. The salmon-pink facade is covered in a grid of windows and balconies, and the towers and side wings carry small domes and thin gold-capped spires. It holds the Aquaventure water park and the Lost Chambers Aquarium.
Planning for this resort began in the mid-2000s as part of the ambitious project to develop the artificial Palm Jumeirah island. After several years of construction, the property opened in late 2008 and has since become a well-known destination for international travelers.
The architecture draws on mythological themes and combines modern construction with design elements that reference ancient legends. Visitors experience a mix of international entertainment and local hospitality, visible in how staff welcome guests and guide them through the complex.
The resort sits at the apex of the Palm Jumeirah, reached by the road and monorail that run out along the island's trunk. The 23-story building holds 1,544 rooms in the East and West towers, so allow time to cross between the Aquaventure water park, the Lost Chambers Aquarium and the restaurants.
The Poseidon and Neptune Underwater Suites span 165 m2 over two levels: the entrance floor sits at ground level, while the master bedroom and en-suite bathroom lie submerged, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Ambassador Lagoon and its sharks and rays. Days before the September 2008 opening, a fire broke out in the grand lobby; repairs were finished and the hotel still opened on schedule.
