Butrint National Park, National park and archaeological UNESCO site in Vlorë County, Albania.
The 9,424-hectare territory contains freshwater lakes, wetlands, salt marshes, open plains, reed beds, and Mediterranean islands along the Ionian Sea.
Initially established as a Greek colony, Butrint evolved into a Roman city and received national park status in 2000, followed by UNESCO recognition in 2013.
The archaeological site presents Greek and Roman structures including a theater, temples, forum, aqueduct, and the Lion Gate with its symbolic bull carving.
Located 18 kilometers south of Sarandë, the park provides guided tours through ancient ruins while maintaining strict conservation measures for its ecosystems.
The park hosts 246 bird species along the Adriatic flyway, including golden eagles, peregrine falcons, and rock partridges in various natural habitats.
