Maja e Papingut

Maja e Papingut is a limestone summit in the Nemërçka massif that rises to 2,482 meters with a distinct pyramid shape. The peak dominates the southern Albanian landscape and serves as a recognizable landmark visible from many directions.

The peak was previously known as Maja e Drites and bears marks of significant glacial activity from the Quaternary period. Deep cirques on its eastern face were carved by ice-age processes over millennia.

Local hiking groups maintain traditional paths up the peak and share knowledge about navigating the mountain routes. The summit holds meaning for people who see it as a landmark of regional mountain culture.

The ascent from the trailhead typically takes about four hours and requires proper hiking gear and experienced local guidance. Weather conditions can change quickly at this elevation, so it is wise to start early and be prepared to turn back.

With 1,797 meters of prominence, this peak ranks among Europe's most visually distinct mountains and commands views spanning multiple Albanian regions. On clear days, the vista extends into neighboring countries.
