National Park - Fir of Hotova, National park in Gjirokastër County, Albania
Hotova National Park is a large protected forest area situated in mountainous terrain with limestone formations, valleys, and canyons. The landscape includes dense woodlands interspersed with river systems and dramatic rocky formations.
The area received official protection as a national park in 1996 to safeguard one of the largest fir forests in the Balkans. This designation secured the woodland from further development or extraction.
The Frashëri family, leaders of Albanian intellectual life, left their mark throughout this territory. Visitors can encounter traces of their presence scattered across the landscape today.
Access to the park from the SH75 road near Piskova requires four-wheel drive vehicles due to rough trail conditions. Visitors should expect uneven paths and limited facilities throughout the area.
The park contains eleven natural monuments including thermal springs in Langarica Canyon where water reaches around 30 degrees Celsius. These warm springs result from geothermal heat rising through the mountain terrain.
