Osum Canyon

Osum Canyon is a 13-kilometer-long gorge carved through limestone that creates dramatic vertical walls rising up to 80 meters above the river flowing below. The passage narrows and widens throughout its length, from tight sections only about 1.5 meters across at water level to broader areas higher up the slopes.

This gorge formed approximately 2 to 3 million years ago when water gradually wore away the limestone layers at an elevation of around 450 meters. The relentless work of the river over millions of years carved out the walls and passages visible today.

Local people have long used this canyon as a natural waypoint, naming distinctive rock formations like the Cathedral and the Demon's Door to guide their movements through the landscape. These place names reflect a deep familiarity with every corner of the gorge.

Spring provides the best conditions for water activities like rafting and exploring waterfalls, while summer welcomes visitors who want to swim in natural pools scattered through the landscape. Sturdy footwear is essential, and water levels change with the season, so check conditions before planning any activities.
