The New Bazaar, also known as Pazari i Ri, is a market and neighborhood built around Avni Rustemi Square in central Tirana, Albania. A covered hall at its center houses vendors selling fresh produce, spices, seafood, and meats, while surrounding streets are lined with cafes, small restaurants, and artisan shops.
The market was established in 1931 to serve Tirana's growing population, and it quickly became the city's main trading point. In recent years, the area underwent a major renovation, with new buildings designed in an Italian colonial style and decorated with Albanian patterns on their facades.
Pazari i Ri is where Tirana residents do their daily shopping, chat with neighbors, and spend time together. On weekends, the open squares host concerts, small fairs, and family events that draw people from across the city.
The market sits a short walk from the center of Tirana and is easy to reach on foot from most central landmarks. It is open most days, and a morning visit is a good time to see the stalls at their fullest and the area at its most active.
Before the renovation, conditions in the old market had become so poor that vendors and shoppers were gradually abandoning the area. The new buildings deliberately follow the old layout of the stalls, so traders work in the same spots as those who came before them.
