Theatre Skampa, Professional theater in Elbasan County, Albania

Theatre Skampa is a performing arts venue in Elbasan with a modern auditorium holding around 292 seats, designed by architect Halit Narazani. Located in the city center, it serves as a stage for theatrical productions and artistic events.

The building opened in 1938 as the Nacional cinema, one of Albania's most modern cinemas, with 450 seats and backstage space for stage productions. On 16 July 1962 the professional Skampa company was inaugurated there with Naum Prifti's drama Rrethimi i bardhë, and Lec Shllaku became its first director. A fire on 4 August 2011, which spread from the neighbouring hotel, destroyed the stage, seating and corridors; after reconstruction with city and insurer Sigal funding, the theatre reopened in February 2012.

The theatre's name comes from the Skampa family, and its stage hosted the 1970 comedy "Njeriu që pa vdekjen me sy" by Viktor Eftimiu, who watched the performance and praised actors Shpëtim Shmili, Robert Ndrenika and Haxhi Sejko. In 1999 it launched the International Festival of Experimental Theatres with troupes from Balkan countries.

The theatre stands in central Elbasan, in the building of the former Nacional cinema. After the fire of 4 August 2011 it was rebuilt with support from the city and the insurer Sigal, reopening in February 2012. It closed for a year during the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed activity in September 2021.

In 1999 the theatre launched the International Festival of Experimental Theatres, the first of its kind there, inviting troupes from Balkan countries. It is not an annual event in the sources. The building itself dates from 1938, when it opened as the Nacional cinema with 450 seats.
