Artavaz, Mountain summit in Kotayk Province, Armenia

Mount Artavaz is a 2,929-metre summit in the central part of the Pambak range, in Kotayk Province, 4 km north-east of Artavaz village. It has a rare semicircular form and is composed of nepheline syenites. The mountain area is protected as a biological monument, the Relict Cirque on Mount Artavaz.

Mount Artavaz is a 2,929-metre summit of the Pambak range, built of nepheline syenites, a rare alkaline rock. Its territory was declared a biological nature monument, the "Relict Circus on Mount Artavaz", protecting relict plant communities in the semicircular hollow. The village of Artavaz lies at the foot of the mountain, 4 km south-west of the peak in Kotayk Province.

The mountain is also known as Köroğlu, a Turkic name shared with the village at its foot, which is called Artavaz after the peak. The Armenian name links the summit to the Artavaz of legend, and the semicircular shape of the ridge is what travellers notice first from the road below.

The mountain attracts skiers in winter months, particularly from Meghradzor village, while summer provides the best conditions for hiking. Accessibility changes with seasons, so visitors should check weather patterns and current snow conditions before planning their visit.
