Marmarik Reservoir, lake in Armenia

The Marmarik Reservoir is an artificial lake on the Marmarik River in Kotayk Province, held back by a 55-metre dam. Its total capacity is 24 million cubic metres, of which 23 million are usable. Built in 1974, it was not put into operation until 2012, after repair works finished in 2011.

Construction of the Marmarik Reservoir began in the 1970s and was halted in 1976; work resumed in 2006 and finished at the end of 2010. Before the planned filling, the dam's lower slope collapsed and about 500,000 cubic metres of soil slid into the lower reach; restoration was completed in 2011 at a cost of about 4.874 billion drams.
