Monumental Complex in Aparan, Memorial complex in Aparan, Armenia

The "Vercnund" Memorial Complex near Aparan is built of black tuff and consists of three separate memorials: one to the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, one to the heroes of the 1918 Battle of Bash-Aparan, and one to Aparan residents killed in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Its architect was Rafael Israelyan. At the western edge of the complex stands the grave of Battle of Bash-Aparan commander Dro (Drastamat Kanayan), buried here on 28 May 2000, marked by a basalt pyramid.

The complex was built to commemorate three separate events: the 1915 Armenian Genocide, the 1918 Battle of Bash-Aparan, and the Aparan residents who died in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War. In 1994 a military pantheon was founded at the wooded entrance of the complex, holding graves of fighters killed in the 1991-1994 Artsakh war, later border clashes, and the 2020 war. On 28 May 2000 the remains of Dro (Drastamat Kanayan), commander of the Battle of Bash-Aparan, were buried on the western edge mound.

The complex is known locally as "Vercnund" (Rebirth), and its three black tuff stelae mark the 1915 genocide, the 1918 Battle of Bash-Aparan and the 1941-1945 war dead. Since 1994 a military pantheon has occupied the wooded entrance, holding graves of fighters killed in the 1991-1994 Artsakh war and later border clashes. On 28 May 2000 the remains of Dro (Drastamat Kanayan), commander at Bash-Aparan, were buried on the western mound.

The complex stands near Aparan in Aragatsotn Province, with the military pantheon founded in 1994 in the forest at its entrance. Drostamat Kanayan's grave, a basalt pyramid, lies on the western mound. The site is included in Aparan's list of immovable historical and cultural monuments.

On 28 May 2000 the remains of Dro (Drastamat Kanayan), commander of the 1918 Bash-Aparan battle, were reburied on the complex's western mound. His grave is shaped like a basalt pyramid and is itself listed as a monument of Armenian history and culture.
