Gegharot waterfall, Natural water monument in Aragatsotn Province, Armenia.
Gegharot waterfall is a natural cascade on the slopes of Mount Aragats that drops about 17 meters down a rock face. The site sits at high elevation and features the water flowing over stone formations surrounded by the alpine terrain.
The waterfall received official protection status in 2008 when Armenia's government designated it as a protected natural monument. This legal recognition established the site as an officially safeguarded location.
The name comes from the Armenian word for water and reflects the local relationship with this natural feature on Mount Aragats. Visitors often encounter local guides who share stories about the mountain and how communities have long valued such water sources.
A four-wheel drive vehicle is needed to reach the site, as regular cars cannot navigate the mountain track. Spring through early summer offers the best visiting conditions when water flow is strongest and the route becomes more passable.
During winter months the cascading water freezes into intricate ice formations that cling to the rock face like natural sculptures. These frozen patterns change appearance each year, transforming the site into an entirely different landscape compared to the warmer seasons.
