Le Pic Rouge, Mountain summit in French Polynesia
Le Pic Rouge is a mountain summit in the Windward Islands characterized by steep granite slopes that lead to a compact peak area. The summit rises approximately 432 meters above sea level.
The mountain served as a navigational reference point for local communities since the early settlement of French Polynesia. Its position made it an important landmark in the region's maritime history.
Local residents maintain traditional practices of respecting mountain peaks as sacred elements within the French Polynesian natural landscape.
The hiking trail begins from a parking area at the base and takes approximately three hours to reach the summit. Water sources are available along the route.
From the peak, visitors can see two other significant summits: Papaihona at around 694 meters and Mont Orohena, the highest point in French Polynesia. These visible neighboring peaks make this a valuable vantage point for observing the local mountain landscape.
