Stoppani Glacier, Valley glacier in Alberto de Agostini National Park, Chile
Stoppani Glacier is a valley glacier in Alberto de Agostini National Park in southern Patagonia. It descends from the Cordillera Darwin mountains and flows toward Yendegaia Bay.
The glacier was named after Italian geologist Giorgio Stoppani, who studied glaciers in South America in the early 1900s. The area became protected as a national park to preserve its natural features.
The glacier forms part of the Alberto de Agostini National Park, which protects the natural heritage of Tierra del Fuego and its native ecosystems.
The glacier is accessible during the warmer months from December to March and requires mountaineering skills. Visitors should check weather conditions beforehand and arrange guidance with experienced guides.
The glacier functions as the source of the Yendegaia River, contributing to the regional water system through its continuous ice melt process.
