Casa Furniel

Casa Furniel is a three-story building with an L-shaped floor plan, featuring wooden interior finishes, metal exterior cladding, and a steeply pitched roof topped with a tower. The construction blends European building styles with local practices common in early 20th-century southern Chile.

The house was built in the early 1900s by Martín Ohaco Rehbein for Basque-French settlers. The municipality of Río Bueno acquired it in 1966 and has used it for local government functions since then.

The building displays architectural choices that show how wealthy families lived in early 20th-century southern Chile. You can see the care taken in selecting materials and arranging spaces that once belonged to prominent local residents.

The building now serves as a municipal office where you can visit during regular working hours to see the interior spaces. It is worth checking in advance whether tours are available or if walk-in visits are permitted.

The house ranks as one of the oldest buildings in the town, second only to the historical Fort San Juan de Alcuida in age. This position makes it an important record of how Río Bueno first developed as an urban center.
