The museum exhibits an extensive collection of dinosaur fossils, including vertebrae measuring 1.5 meters tall from the Argentinosaurus Huinculensis specimen.
Established in 1984, the Carmen Funes Municipal Museum became a regional center for research following the discovery of South America's first dinosaur in Plottier in 1883.
The institution maintains fossil preparation workshops and collaborates with international research centers to advance paleontological knowledge in the Neuquén Province.

The museum houses the only known sauropod embryos discovered at a large nesting site in Auca Mahuida, Patagonia, along with 11 holotype specimens.
