Casa donde nació Violeta Parra, Historical monument in San Carlos, Chile

The birthplace of folk artist Violeta Parra is a simple residential building from the early 1900s with regional architectural features typical of that period. Located on El Roble Street in San Carlos, the house reflects the modest construction standards of its time.

The building received official status as a National Monument of Chile in 1992 in recognition of Violeta Parra's significance. This designation protects the house as a key cultural site in the nation's music and folklore history.

The house bears the name Casa Museo Violeta Parra de San Carlos and hosts guitar, painting, theatre and xilography workshops, plus exhibitions and artisan fairs. A mural in the courtyard was made by craftswomen from Quinchamalí under designer Militza Agusti. The museum's stated mission is to protect, research and spread Parra's artistic, social and cultural legacy.

The house is open to visitors and features informational displays explaining details from Violeta Parra's early years. Visiting in person allows you to connect her life with the San Carlos setting where she began.

The house was saved from demolition in 2005 through the efforts of the Spanish municipality of Baena, twinned with San Carlos because the city's founder, Joaquín del Pino, was born there. Baena ceded the land to the Municipality of San Carlos to create a museum in Violeta Parra's memory.
