Plaza de armas de Chillán

The Plaza de Armas covers 15,625 square meters, featuring ancient cedar trees from Lebanon and the Himalayas, along with Canary Island palm trees.

Following the 1835 Concepción earthquake, architect Carlos Lozier designed this plaza as part of the city's fourth and final foundation using a checkerboard layout.

The central monument, created by Argentine sculptor Roberto Negri in 1919, depicts independence leader Bernardo O'Higgins with Greek muse Clío beside independence war scenes.

The plaza sits between 18 de Septiembre Street, Libertad Avenue, Arauco Street, and Constitución Street, providing free Wi-Fi access for visitors and residents.

The plaza contains some of the oldest trees in Chillán, including American elms, Washingtonia palms, and magnolias, averaging 120 years in age.
