Construction began in December 1910 under Brother Rufo de San José's direction, marking the first Discalced Carmelite establishment in Chile.
The church received Spanish Carmelite priests and refugees from the Winnipeg ship during the Spanish Civil War, creating a connection between both nations.
Located at Rosas 558 in Chillán, the church underwent restoration works in 2017 to repair damage from the 2010 earthquake.
The structure incorporates railway tracks covered in concrete as reinforcement elements, contributing to its resistance through multiple earthquakes.
