San Agustín de Puñual

San Agustín de Puñual is a hacienda with a central courtyard in Ninhue that displays colonial-period objects and items related to Chilean naval history. The building retains its original rectangular layout with galleries arranged around the inner court.

The estate was founded in 1780 and belonged to the Chacón family, who had ties to Chile's naval history. The property gained further importance as the birthplace of a significant naval figure in the early 1800s.

The hacienda displays rural architectural features from the 1700s that reflect connections to Chilean maritime traditions. Visitors can experience how this working estate once blended agricultural life with naval heritage.

The museum is run by the Chilean Armed Forces and offers guided tours through the exhibitions. Plan time to explore the central courtyard, which plays a key role in how the collections are presented and arranged.

The building was severely damaged in the 2010 earthquake but underwent a full restoration that was completed by 2014. Private cultural donors played a key role in funding the reconstruction efforts and preserving this historic site.
