Puente ferroviario de Ñuble

The metal railway bridge spans 504 meters across the Ñuble River, featuring ten arches on each side and weighing 1,300 tons.

The bridge construction began in 1885 by Lever, Murphy & Co. in Viña del Mar, with initial costs reaching 450,000 Chilean pesos of that time.

The structure represents the evolution of Chilean railway engineering, connecting the Chillán station to San Carlos on the Southern Network railway system.

The bridge underwent major reinforcement work in 1924 with arches and chains, followed by additional structural improvements between 1945 and 1947.

In 2006, a freight train derailment damaged three sections of the bridge, leading to extensive repairs costing 180 million Chilean pesos.
