Muelle Prat
Muelle Prat is a pier on Valparaíso Bay, in central Chile, stretching out over the water with a wide open walkway. At the entrance stand small historic buildings, and along the railing you can watch cargo ships and smaller vessels moving through the harbor throughout the day.
The pier was built in the mid-1800s, when Valparaíso was one of the busiest ports on the South American Pacific coast. Over the following decades it was repaired and adapted several times, keeping a balance between working port functions and public access.
Along the pier, local craftspeople sell handmade jewelry, woven textiles, and wooden objects from small stalls that line the walkway. This informal market has become a natural part of the daily life of the waterfront, drawing both locals and visitors.
The pier is easy to reach on foot from the center of Valparaíso, with a flat, open walkway accessible to most visitors. Going during the day gives you the best chance to see port activity and browse the stalls.
A replica of the Santiaguillo, a ship connected to early voyages along the Pacific coast, stands on display at the pier. It is easy to walk past without noticing it, but it adds a layer of maritime history to the visit.
