Edificio Ariztía, Commercial structure in Barrio La Bolsa, Chile.
Edificio Ariztía is a building on Nueva York Street in downtown Santiago with reinforced concrete construction and functional early 1900s design. The interior is divided into office spaces, with the ground floor left open for business use.
The building was completed in 1921 as Chile sought to modernize after World War I, marking a turning point in Santiago's urban architecture. Shortly after its completion, it helped define the character of the financial district where commercial and office spaces mixed together.
The layout and spaces inside reflect how business owners worked during the 1920s, with distinct office areas and open ground floor zones for commerce. The structure shows the era's belief that work and commerce belonged together in a single modern building.
The building is located in a central business district and can be easily reached by public transportation, as it sits near multiple bus lines and transit stops. Pedestrians will find a dense street network that makes access straightforward.
It was the first building of its kind in Chile to be equipped with a modern elevator system, a technical innovation that barely existed elsewhere at the time. This feature made it incredibly practical for office workers and business people to reach multiple floors quickly.
