Iglesia del Buen Pastor, Santiago de Chile, Catholic church in Independencia district, Santiago, Chile.
Iglesia del Buen Pastor is a Catholic church located in the Independencia district of Santiago. The building displays a Latin cross layout with a neoclassical facade, four Ionic columns, and two pointed spire towers.
Italian architect Eusebio Chelli designed the church in 1862 following neoclassical principles. The complex served as a convent until 1972, when it received status as a national monument.
The church embodies the work of the Good Shepherd Sisters, an order from France dedicated to supporting young women in difficult circumstances. The complex continues to reflect this charitable mission through how it is used and organized.
The building is now used as headquarters for Fundación Las Rosas and remains open for religious services. Access is generally public, though checking opening hours before visiting is advisable.
The convent layout is arranged symmetrically around the church nave, integrating gardens and patios in traditional monastic fashion. This spatial organization reflects how religious communities of that era designed their living and worship spaces.
