Amolanas Viaduct, Road bridge in the Coquimbo Region, Chile

The Amolanas Viaduct consists of two road bridges over the Amolanas ravine at km 309 of Route 5 North, on the Autopista del Elqui in the Coquimbo Region. The original 1950s structure has three arches; the newer bridge, built in the late 1990s, stands 106 m above the valley, making it Chile's highest road bridge.

The original Amolanas Viaduct was built in the 1950s by the firm Fermandois y Martínez, whose partners were Gastón Fermandois Sánchez and Antonio Martínez. It has three arches. The new viaduct was built in the late 1990s as part of the Autopista del Elqui.

The two bridges are known as the Amolanas Viaduct, named after the quebrada they cross at km 309 of Route 5 North. The original 1950s structure was built by the firm Fermandois y Martínez, whose partners Gastón Fermandois Sánchez and Antonio Martínez were then concessionaires of the Viña del Mar casino. The newer span, part of the Autopista del Elqui, is Chile's highest road bridge.

The two viaducts stand at km 309 of Route 5 North, on the Autopista del Elqui in the Coquimbo Region. The old three-arch bridge and the newer high bridge cross the Amolanas ravine side by side; the newer one rises 106 m above the valley floor, the highest road bridge in Chile.

The new viaduct carries 12 accelerometers monitored by Chile's National Accelerometer Network (RENADIC), which record ground shaking at the structure. Its deck stands 106 m above the valley, making it Chile's highest road bridge and one of the highest in South America.
