Rondoy, Mountain summit in Bolognesi Province, Peru
Rondoy is a mountain summit standing at approximately 5,870 meters in the northern Huayhuash range of the Peruvian Andes. The peak sits between Bolognesi Province in Ancash Region and Lauricocha Province in Huánuco Region.
The summit has long served as a reference point for mountain communities navigating the high Andean terrain. Its position in the range marks a traditional divide between adjacent territorial areas of the northern highlands.
The name Rondoy comes from a Quechua word that reflects the indigenous heritage of these mountains. Local guides and communities in the region continue to hold knowledge about the peaks and passes that shape their home.
Access requires acclimatization to high altitude and specialized climbing gear for snow and ice conditions. Hiring local mountain guides who know the terrain and can manage the risks associated with extreme elevation is strongly recommended.
The peak rises north of the well-known Yerupajá and Jirishanca summits and overlooks Lake Mitococha. For trekkers on the Huayhuash circuit, Rondoy offers a less crowded vantage point that differs from the more popular passes in the region.
