Auxilio, Mountain summit in the Cordillera Huayhuash, Peru

Auxilio is a summit of about 5,560 metres in the western Huayhuash range, on the boundary of the Ancash and Lima regions, south of Auxilio Lake and southwest of Huacrish. Its upper part is snow and ice cut by dark rock along the steep faces and ridges, with several high points and notches along the summit line. Below the snowline the mountain gives way to bare brownish-grey rock and scree slopes.

Auxilio's name derives from the Quechua word Awkillu, meaning apu (an Andean mountain deity) or grandfather, old man. The Hispanicized form Auxilio is misleading, since in Spanish it means "assistance" or "support". The peak lies in the western Huayhuash range, south of Auxilio Lake and southwest of Huacrish, on the Ancash–Lima regional boundary.

The name Auxilio is a Hispanicized rendering of the Quechua Awkillu, meaning grandfather or old man and also denoting an apu, a mountain deity. The misleading Spanish word auxilio ("assistance") has no link to the peak itself.

Reaching this summit requires time to acclimatize to the high elevation and proper mountaineering gear. It is wise to travel with experienced local guides who know the terrain and conditions.

The summit sits on the border between two administrative regions of Peru, marking the natural boundary between Ancash and Lima. This geographic feature makes the peak a natural border point between the two areas.
