Las Peñas

Las Peñas is a historic district in Guayaquil featuring 444 steps that climb Santa Ana Hill, lined with old wooden houses. Along Numa Pompilio Llona Street you'll find art galleries, restaurants, and shops that make up the neighborhood's character.

The district was founded in the mid-17th century and preserves buildings from that era. It played a role in South America's independence movements and is linked to key historical figures of the region.

At the summit sits a white lighthouse built in 2002 that offers sweeping views across the city and the Guayas River below. Though modest in size, the views from above reward visitors for their effort climbing the hill.
