Machalilla National Park

Machalilla National Park extends over 750 square kilometers along the Pacific coast, featuring dry forests, fog forests, and protected beaches.

Archaeological excavations in the park area revealed ceramics from the Machalilla culture, which existed around 1800 BCE in this coastal region.

Local fishing communities near Puerto López maintain traditional maritime practices while participating in conservation efforts within the park boundaries.

Visitors can access the park through Puerto López, with trails leading to Los Frailes beach and opportunities for whale watching from June to September.

The park contains the only habitat outside the Galapagos Islands where waved albatross nest and breed among its diverse bird population.
