Poza Honda, Water reservoir in Manabí Province, Ecuador
The Poza Honda dam extends over 1.2 kilometers in length and contains a reservoir holding more than 100 million cubic meters of water.
Engineers constructed the Poza Honda dam between 1969 and 1971 in the upper section of the Portoviejo River to support regional water management.
Local communities around Poza Honda maintain traditional agricultural practices while adapting to modern water management systems provided by the reservoir.
The reservoir supplies drinking water to Santa Ana, Portoviejo, and Rocafuerte cities while supporting irrigation for 10,000 hectares of agricultural land.
The dam features two protective asphalt layers, each measuring 2 inches thick, forming a sandwich structure to shield the slope from air exposure.
