Lamas Province, Province in San Martín Region, Peru

Lamas Province is located in northeastern Peru and spans multiple districts with varying terrain and population centers. The area displays a mix of mountainous regions and valleys, with the city of Lamas serving as its administrative hub.

The territory was settled by the Pocras people, who established themselves here after their defeat by Inca forces under Pachacútec in 1438. They founded their community under the leadership of Ankoallo and created a lasting presence in the region.

The Kichwa-Lamista people shape daily life throughout the province through their language, crafts, and local celebrations that keep their community heritage alive.

The province comprises numerous districts, all accessible from the capital city of Lamas where visitors can find information and basic services. The terrain is hilly to mountainous, and road conditions vary depending on the season.

The region receives particularly heavy rainfall during the months of March and April, turning the landscape lush green and boosting local water sources. This rainy season shapes the appearance of the valleys and supports the diversity of plant life.
