After serving as Argentina's southernmost prison from 1902 to 1947, the building was transformed into a museum and received National Historic Monument status in 1997.
The museum displays the marine traditions of Tierra del Fuego, including a reconstructed Yagan canoe and exhibits about indigenous seafaring practices.
The museum grants visitors two-day access passes, enabling thorough exploration of all exhibitions, including the Maritime Museum, Prison Museum, and Antarctic Museum.
The facility features a collection of marine art dating from 1889, presenting works by Argentine artists Quinquela Martin and Fortunato Lacamera.
