Isla de los Pájaros

The island stretches 170 meters in length and 75 meters in width, connecting to the mainland during low tide in the San Jose Gulf.

Spanish colonizers constructed Fort San Jose with a chapel in 1779, which native peoples later destroyed in 1810 during an attack.

Ten different marine and coastal bird species establish their reproduction grounds on this island, including Magellanic penguins and cormorants.

Visitors can observe the island's wildlife through binoculars at the interpretation center, located 3 kilometers from the Ameghino Isthmus Visitor Center.

During each 12-hour cycle, the tides transform this elevated land mass from an island to a peninsula, creating paths for crabs and marine life.
