Playa La Mina, Coastal beach in Puerto San Julián, Santa Cruz, Argentina
Playa La Mina is a beach on the northern side of San Julián Bay, extending for about 1 kilometer and bordered by tall rocky cliffs. These cliffs contain fossils from ancient marine life and shape the character of the entire shoreline.
The name comes from a former coal mining operation that once operated in the area. Entrances to the old mining tunnels remain visible in the surrounding cliffs today.
Local people from Puerto San Julián come here to swim and spend time during warmer months, making it an important gathering place for the community in this southern region.
The beach is well-suited for fishing activities targeting silverside fish, sea bass, and roosterfish directly from the shore. Visitors should pay attention to tidal conditions to ensure the best experience and safety.
At low tide, an extensive rocky platform emerges revealing starfish, mussels, snails, and other marine creatures. This tidal zone gives visitors a chance to observe sea life up close in its natural setting.
