Casa Colectiva Valentín Alsina

This residential building rises four stories and contains about 70 apartments arranged around two rectangular inner courtyards with surrounding galleries. Commercial spaces on the ground floor face the street while residential units of various sizes occupy the upper levels.

Construction finished in 1919 as the first project of a government housing commission created just four years earlier. This building marked a turning point in how authorities approached housing for the growing urban population at that time.

European architectural features blend with local living traditions, especially visible in the gallery spaces surrounding the two inner courtyards. These covered walkways served as gathering spots where residents naturally interacted while moving through their daily routines.

The building sits in an established residential neighborhood and can be accessed from multiple streets around the block. Since people live here, viewing the structure is best done from the exterior or from any public areas that may be open.

The building received official heritage protection status through two separate designations made in consecutive years. This dual recognition by different government levels shows how valued this early housing project became for the city.
