Parque España, Buenos Aires, Park in Barracas, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Parque España is a public park in the Barracas neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina, with wide paths, grassy areas, and trees that provide shade. Benches line the walkways, and there are play areas for children within the grounds.

In the 19th century, the land where the park now stands was occupied by slaughterhouses and animal pens. The square was first named Plaza de los Inválidos to honor veterans of the War of the Triple Alliance, then officially renamed Parque España in 1900.

The park sits in the Barracas neighborhood, where locals use it for walks, picnics, and outdoor exercise on weekends. Nearby cultural centers and art workshops draw theater groups and artists who often present their work to passersby.

The park is easy to reach from the nearby Plaza Constitución station, and many visitors also arrive by bus or bicycle. The flat terrain and wide paths make it straightforward to walk through the whole area without difficulty.

The 1900 renaming to Parque España was celebrated by the Spanish community in Buenos Aires with a public gathering at the park. Along Avenida Caseros, which borders the park, some 19th-century buildings still stand and are now used by artists and cultural groups.
