La Puerta Historiada, Bronze monument at Biblioteca del Docente, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
La Puerta Historiada is a bronze monument about 4 meters tall and 2.5 meters wide, located inside the Biblioteca del Docente. Its surface features eight detailed relief panels depicting different teaching scenes.
Sculptor Arturo Dresco created this monument in 1933 to honor Argentine teachers, following an initiative proposed by José María Ramos Mejía in 1909. The idea to recognize educators in this way came from a movement to acknowledge their important role in society.
The eight relief panels show teaching scenes from different regions of the country with historical figures like Mariano Moreno and Manuel Belgrano. These depictions reflect how education was valued and celebrated in Argentine society.
The monument is located inside the Biblioteca del Docente at Avenue Entre Rios 1349 and can be viewed during the library's opening hours. It was restored and moved from its original exterior position to inside the building in 2013 for better protection.
The monument includes depictions of native plants and animals alongside 14 shields representing Argentine provinces at the time of its creation. This combination makes the work a complex symbol of the country's unity and diversity brought together in one artwork.
