Cemento, Underground music venue in Constitución, Argentina
Cemento is a performance venue in Constitución, Buenos Aires, located in a building on Estados Unidos Street. The space spreads across two levels with concrete elements and offers around 700 square meters for concerts.
Omar Chabán and Katja Alemann opened the venue in 1985 in a former garage. The stage remained active until 2004 and played an important role in the Argentine rock scene.
The name refers to the concrete walls that still define the space and create its character. Many musicians remember the acoustics and the closeness to the audience that both floors of this venue offered.
The entrance is near Constitución train and bus station, so public transport is easy to reach. Visitors should note that the building is no longer used for concerts and can only be viewed from the outside.
The city of Buenos Aires declared the building a cultural heritage site for its role in the development of Argentine rock. The structure still shows the typical features of a converted parking garage from the 1980s.
