San José Observatory, Astronomical observatory in Buenos Aires, Argentina
The San José Observatory stands within the central tower of San José school, featuring a vertical structure accessed by a wooden staircase completed in 1870.
Established in 1913, this observatory holds the distinction of being the first active astronomical research facility in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The observatory maintains a collection of restored historical instruments in a dedicated room, displaying equipment used throughout its century of operation.
Visitors can access astronomy courses and workshops in a classroom that accommodates 20 participants, complete with educational tools and demonstration materials.
The observatory houses a Mailhat equatorial telescope from France, featuring a 1990mm focal length and modern Meade eyepieces for enhanced observation capabilities.
