Monument to General Carlos M. de Alvear, Equestrian monument in Recoleta district, Argentina.
The Monument to General Carlos M. de Alvear features the general mounted on horseback with his right arm raised, standing on a pink granite pedestal. Multiple levels structure the base, with the central equestrian figure surrounded by four additional bronze sculptures.
The monument was created by French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle over ten years and inaugurated in Buenos Aires in 1926. The sculpture was completed in France and then shipped to Argentina for installation.
The four bronze figures surrounding the monument represent Force, Eloquence, Victory, and Liberty as allegorical representations. Each figure displays different characteristics that make these abstract concepts visible through their posture and attributes.
The monument is located at the intersection of Avenida Alvear and Avenida del Libertador near Plaza Julio de Caro in Recoleta. The site is accessible by various transportation options and easily visible from the street.
A descendant of the honored general attended the inauguration ceremony, as President Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear was his grandson. This personal connection linked the family directly to the city's public monument.
