Italpark, Family amusement park in Recoleta, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Italpark was an amusement park in Recoleta, Buenos Aires, featuring a variety of mechanical rides and attractions. The sprawling grounds included roller coasters, bumper cars, ghost trains, and a prominent Matter Horn ride as its centerpiece.
The park opened in 1960 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the May Revolution and was built on the grounds of the former Japanese Park. Its life was cut short when a serious accident involving the Matter Horn ride in 1990 led to its permanent closure.
The park served as a major gathering place for families in Buenos Aires during the 1980s, shaping how residents spent their leisure time. It held a special place in the city's entertainment culture and in the memories of local children.
The park required public transportation or a car to reach from downtown Buenos Aires. Visitors needed to purchase tickets at the entrance to access individual rides and attractions.
After closure, several rides were salvaged and moved to other parks across Argentina. The Super 8 Volante roller coaster, one of the most beloved attractions, was relocated to Argenpark in Luján where it continues to operate.
