Buenos Aires Eco-Park, Nature park in Palermo, Argentina
Buenos Aires Eco-Park is an 18-hectare ecological park in the Palermo neighborhood featuring green spaces, ponds, Victorian buildings, and open areas where animals live in natural surroundings without cages. The site combines visitor zones for leisure with sections where native and exotic species can be observed in open enclosures.
The site opened in 1888 as a traditional zoo housing animal species from around the world in conventional enclosures. In 2016 it was converted into an ecological park with a focus on animal welfare and education.
The grounds include architectural elements from different traditions, such as Moorish arches, Indian pavilions, and Greek columns, that once marked exhibition zones. These structures still shape the landscape and give the site an international, eclectic character.
The park opens daily except Monday from 11 am to 6 pm and allows up to 2000 visitors per day. Paths and green areas are suitable for walking, and signage provides guidance to animal areas and historic buildings.
Native plant species grow alongside restored sculptures by Argentine artist Lola Mora, dating from the early 20th century. This combination of natural habitat and artistic heritage is rare among parks of this type.
