Edificio La Colorada, Residential building in Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Edificio La Colorada is a five-story residential building with a red brick facade in the Palermo neighborhood. The structure includes a basement, ground floor, and four residential levels arranged across a frontage that extends approximately 26 meters.
The building was designed and built in 1911 by British engineer-architect Regis Pigeon. It was originally conceived as housing for railway company executives who worked in Buenos Aires.
The building served as a filming location for several movies and shaped the visual history of Buenos Aires cinema. Its red brick front became a recognizable backdrop in Argentine films across multiple decades after its construction.
The building is located on Cabello Street and is easily recognizable from the street by its distinctive red brick front. The best time to photograph or view it is in early morning or late afternoon when light enhances the texture of the brick.
The building was constructed using an unusual structural system employing iron beams instead of reinforced concrete. The materials were imported directly from Britain, making it a notable example of British engineering in Buenos Aires.
