Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, Domestic airport in Palermo district, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Aeroparque Jorge Newbery is a domestic airport in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires, Argentina, equipped with a single concrete runway. The terminal sits directly on the shore of the Río de la Plata and mainly serves flights to other Argentine cities as well as connections to Uruguay.
The facility opened in 1947 under the name Aeroparque 17 de Octubre and received its current name in 1955 in honor of Argentine flight pioneer Jorge Newbery. Over the following decades, infrastructure expanded step by step to meet growing domestic air traffic.
Inside the main building, archive photographs and documents recall the early days of Argentine flight and show aircraft from the opening decades. Passengers often use the public areas as a meeting point, since the terminal sits centrally between several city districts and remains easy to reach.
Travelers reach the city center in roughly 20 minutes using public buses, taxis, or private shuttles that depart from outside the terminal. During peak hours, it helps to allow extra time for the journey into downtown or to other neighborhoods.
The location right by the Río de la Plata allows passengers water views during takeoff and landing, especially in clear weather and low cloud cover. On windy days, travelers often feel light turbulence shortly before touchdown, since air currents over the wide river estuary vary.
