Edificio Unión Telefónica, Eclectic architecture building in Monserrat, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Edificio Unión Telefónica is an 11-story building with an H-shaped layout in Monserrat. Its two entrances feature carved stone decorations shaped like seashells.
Built in 1929 by architects Calvo, Jacobs, and Giménez, the structure replaced an earlier 18th-century residence. The site had long served as an important location for business and administrative activity.
The building reflects how telecommunications shaped Buenos Aires, as it transitioned from a private company headquarters to a state-run institution. This shift changed how residents viewed essential services in their city.
The building sits close to Plaza de Mayo and is easily accessible by public transport. Interior courtyards bring natural light throughout the spaces, making orientation straightforward.
The structure spans three distinct sections across the entire plot, with specialized functional areas within each. A rooftop printing facility once produced materials for internal operations.
