Club Uruguay

Club Uruguay is a three-story building in the old city that displays a detailed stone facade mixing Renaissance, Mannerist, and Baroque design elements. Inside, it contains conference rooms, a library, game rooms, and a bar serving as spaces for members to meet and conduct business.

The building was designed in 1888 by Italian engineer Luigi Andreoni following the merger of two established societies into this institution. This union brought together Montevideo's leading businesspeople and professionals under a single roof.

The club's name reflects European cultural influences that shaped Montevideo's high society, and its rooms reveal how the wealthy gathered for intellectual and social pursuits. The library and meeting spaces demonstrate the role these institutions played in the city's professional and cultural life during that period.

The building is located in Ciudad Vieja, the historic center, where it is easily accessible on foot and surrounded by other old monuments. Keep in mind that this is a private establishment and access to the interior may be restricted depending on membership.
