Iberá Provincial Reserve

Iberá Provincial Reserve is a vast wetland in northeastern Argentina made up of marshes, lakes, and interconnected waterways. The landscape consists of shallow lagoons, floating islands of vegetation, and intricate water channels that form a complex and living ecosystem.

The area received legal protection in 1983 to preserve this unique ecosystem. Subsequent land acquisitions expanded its boundaries and strengthened conservation efforts across the region.

The wetlands have shaped how people in the region live and work with nature over generations. Local residents view the landscape as central to their identity and economic opportunities.

You can enter the reserve through four main gates, each offering different viewpoints and ways to explore the area. Choose your entry point based on what you want to see and how much time you have available.

The reserve runs successful reintroduction programs that have brought jaguars, giant river otters, and tapirs back to the area after decades of absence. These animals now move freely through the wetlands again, making wildlife encounters more likely.
