Proyecto reserva natural y cultural provincial Tres Cerros

Proyecto Reserva Natural y Cultural Provincial Tres Cerros is a protected area in northeastern Argentina featuring three isolated peaks that rise about 179 meters above the surrounding grasslands. The landscape is shaped by native forests and diverse habitats that support the region's wildlife and plant communities.

The area preserves traces of Jesuit-Guarani missions established in the 1600s, including stone walls and cattle pens built during colonial times. These remains show how the land was settled and used for farming during that period.

The name refers to the three distinctive peaks that rise above the flat terrain like islands in a sea of grass. Today, visitors can observe how the landscape shapes local life, with paths and viewpoints designed to help people connect with the natural surroundings.

The best time to visit is during warmer months when trails are dry and passable. Bring comfortable hiking boots and plenty of water, as the climb to the peaks requires sustained effort on exposed terrain.

The peaks create microclimates that support more than 20 types of ferns, which is remarkable in this otherwise flat and dry region. This fern diversity draws attention from botanists and visitors curious about unusual plant conditions.
