Museu Getúlio Vargas, Historical museum in São Borja, Brazil.
The Museu Getúlio Vargas occupies a brick building erected in 1911 with a symmetrical facade decorated with pilasters and ornamental window frames. The house contains over 1,000 books, personal items, and historical documents from different periods.
The house was home to Getúlio Vargas until 1923 and marks the start of his career as a state deputy. From this place, he launched the political journey that would later shape Brazil.
The museum holds personal items and photographs that show how Vargas lived and thought about the world around him. Visitors can get a sense of his daily life and what mattered to him.
The building underwent major restoration in 2013 and now features air conditioning, ramps, and accessibility features for visitors. The updated interior makes it comfortable to explore and spend time here.
During renovations, remains of Guarani settlements were discovered and are now visible through a window in the building. These archaeological finds show that indigenous peoples lived on this site long before it became a residence.
