Parque Temático de la Cruz, Monumental cross park in Santa Ana, Argentina

Parque Temático de la Cruz is a monumental cross park in the Misiones jungle region, built across a large forested area with natural springs and native tree species. The main structure combines concrete foundations with a tall metallic framework forming the cross shape.

The cross was inaugurated on 14 April 2011, with governor Maurice Closs and Carlos Rovira, the project's mentor, present; the papal nuncio Adriano Bernardini read a blessing sent by Pope Benedict XVI. The park cost more than 40 million pesos. The idea grew from the cross itself: the site's space and potential were used to give tourists reasons to stay longer, building on already degraded ground to spare the native forest.

Behind the main building lies the bioplaza, ringed by the park's other attractions: Misiones province's first butterfly house, an orchid garden, an events hall and food and craft stalls. A 700-metre trail on one side of the esplanade is laid out thematically around religious devotion, while a small Greek-style amphitheatre on the opposite side is used for artistic performances.

An elevator inside the structure takes visitors up to viewing platforms at the arms of the cross. From these high points, you get broad views over the surrounding forest and landscape.

The cross stands 82 metres tall: a 53-metre iron structure on a 30-metre concrete base. Inside the base are an exhibition hall, an auditorium, a restaurant and restrooms, and visitors reach the top by elevator or stairs. The park also holds Misiones province's first butterfly house, next to the bioplaza.
